I'm thinking torture is just flat out un-Christian. Also I heard of 2 examples of fabricated information given by people under torture; and one guy gave up some info under other forms of interogations, but shut down under torture. The churches that tend to lean right polically are in an akward position desiding whether to continue to support their political heroes on torture.

Has anybody heard of this?

Both my sister and a neighbor were telling me about it. It's for getting relief from both physical pain and emotional pain such as aniety. Basicly you tap on accupunture spots while saying something to the effect of "even though I feel anxious about making this phone call, I still deeply and completely accept myself. Supposedly the bad feelings goes away fast.

I'm not sure what to think about acupunture points and energy...

Meditation

Does anyone here practice meditation (or has in the past)?

I've started a yoga class and today the teacher did an extra session on meditation. Well, I kind of left wondering what the point was. Basicly we were to concentrate on our breathing (and the little pause in between) which would take us into a meditative state. What it took me into was sleep. 3 times!

There was no guided visualization or anything. I think we were just supposed to...

I was taught that all spirits are either angels or demons. Only humans are ignorant of God to the degree that they can be neutral or a mixed bag of good and bad. I got a book at the library, "The Healing Journey". It starts with a 1973 study of psychological factors as predictors of disease. These were the top traits that predisposed people to develope cancer:

1. Responding to stress with a sense of hopelessness.
2. Bottling up emotions or having impaired emotional outlets.
3. Perceiving a lack of closeness with one or both parents.

What is Paul trying to say here?

This verse has always bothered me:

John 15:1-2
"I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit."

The stock market/ financial crisis

The stock market has been dropping for 7 days now; and people are starting to get scared of big job losses, homelessness, and a depression.

Does anybody think that at the end of this people might let go of their materialism and realize what's really important - ie, caring about each other?

So i'm sitting here thinking that one I'll probably have kids and of course i'll probably have to tell them bed time stories some day. But do i really want to tell my kids stories like David and Goliath where in the end, the good guy kills the bad guy with a rock and then chops off his head and feeds it to the birds?? I'm kinda skeptical about the psychological effects that could have on them growing up. I could understand telling the story of how David beat up the enemy...

I've been reading a book about Native American theology. It's really about Native Americans worldview pertaining to the spiritual world.

One thing that is coming through clear is their close relation to their land - that it was (is?) what provided for them and was not owned in the sense that it could be bought or sold. I havent been here for a while and I am a christian but not very religious. My question is about the name of Jesus. I have a friend who says his name is not Jesus, but that it is Yeshua Hamashiah, and he insists that christians in America are preaching a false god because his name is not Jesus but Yeshua. I looked it up and he is right about the name part. His name is Yeshua Hameshiah. So does this mean the name of Jesus Christ that is in all the bibles in America is misleading everyone? Let...
