Kids will watch it, some of them will decide that, maybe, demons aren't so bad after all, and there will be a sharp rise in demonic oppression and possession.

But, still, I don't agree with banning the movie. I hate to be pessimistic but, in my experience, humanity as a group, has to learn hard and their memory is short. The Ouiji board isn't very popular at all - certainly not the household word it was when I was a kid, and the reason, I have to assume, was the disasters that came out of getting in too deep with it.

They're out to kill off God? That shouldn't be a worry of ours. God doesn't need us to protect Him. Our MO is the same as it always was - show the true God to the world and win them one heart at a time. The movie won't alter that one iota. The church has a history of over-reacting.

On a point of interest, though, Mr. Pullman's idea about an evil God who was the creator (though, in the books, he lied, it seems) but who is not the "real" God, is quite in line with first century Gnostic teachings.

They just won't go away.

Atheism has never really been too much of a problem to the church. Gnosticism on the other had.........maybe Gnosticism is our Joker.

Actually Gnosticism is much older than Christianity (the Elysian Mysteries were Gnostic) but Christian Gnosticism, of course, can't be older than first century (1 AD - 100 AD). Certainly it was around then because much of Paul's writing was aimed squarely at Gnostics that either said that Jesus could not have been God because he was matter and matter was evil, or that Jesus only seemed to be material and the crucifixion was just an illusion.
